The Unit is particularly involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the main dermatological diseases with a high prevalence in the general population, with particular attention to inflammatory skin disorders, such as psoriasis, acne, eczema and atopic dermatitis.

In addition, the unit employs resources and personnel in the development of therapeutic-assistance pathways for less frequent but extremely complex diseases with a high social impact, such as vitiligo and hidradenitis suppurativa. Furthermore, the research activity in the field of chronic inflammatory skin diseases is extremely active in this unit, hence innovative drugs for complex and difficult pathologies are available.

Several national and international, multicentre, phase I, II, III, and IV clinical trials are conducted.

The purpose of these clinical trials is based on the development of new diagnostic measures and on the evaluation of the efficacy and safety of new experimental drugs and pioneering molecules for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases. Moreover, the aim of scientific research is the collecting of data, in order to investigate innovative pharmaceutical products and to promote new approach in the management of dermatological patients. In particular, we are currently conducting several clinical trials in the field of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, in adolescent and adult subjects, obtaining encouraging and promising results.

Nowadays, in our unit several biologic therapies are available, and new drugs will be soon accessible.
